They Loved To Laugh

Martitia is a downcast young lady who is orphaned when her parents die abruptly. She is taken in by a friendly doctor who tried to save her parents, but failed. On arrival, Martitia unexpectedly meets the doctor's five rowdy sons and forever after that is kept on her toes from their mischievous tricks. Though the five fun fellows greatly enjoy their own jokes, they only make her become even more afraid of them. They tell her they will stop picking on her if she would only learn to laugh with them.

She learns to do many things that she would have never thought of doing before. And she is constantly at battle with Ruth, the youngest daughter in the Gardner family, who believes that “every tub ought to stand on its own bottom!” (I really don’t get what she meant by that, but that’s okay. If you can make heads or tails out of it let us know!)

This wonderful book is definitely one of our favorites! We both own a copy of it, so if you would like to borrow it, we would love to lend it to you on the condition that we get it back sometime. :)
